Some time ago, I took on a new role with a team at a big institution. Before I accepted the role, I did some research and was told the team manager was very difficult to work with. I told myself that I am a believer so it would be different for me.

In the first few months, I enjoyed a great working relationship with this manager and even got an excellent annual performance review. However, after about 6 months on the job, I began to feel I was under attack. I couldn’t articulate the mental anguish I was feeling from interacting with this manager to my friends or family. I just noticed that after each interaction with this person, I had physical symptoms of headaches, bouts of crying, consuming sadness, and a lack of ability to sleep. This went on for a couple of months.

I would usually try and calm myself down by asking my husband to pray over me or read the Scriptures. I was also listening to messages on the JP app and from my local church. I knew God would guide me through His Word, but wasn’t sure of the exact direction because I thought I needed deliverance.

One morning, I read an account in the Bible that led me to go to my doctor. I told her what was happening to me. Long story short, my doctor referred me for counseling, and it was only through the counseling sessions that I realized I was being bullied in the workplace. That was a huge revelation to me because I was totally ignorant of mental bullying before then.

I went on sick leave and during that time, found this gem of a scripture in Psalm 68:19–20. I also listened to a message on the JP app about forgetting the past and pressing on to what God has for us. Those words were like a light that guided me on a very dark path. They were sent to me straight from Jesus. He guided me through the next few weeks of therapy, going through the process of insurance claims with the insurance company, and leading me to apply for new jobs and go for interviews.

Jesus delivered me in the nick of time. I had 3 offers and accepted a fantastic new job with better pay. I just picked the one Jesus gave me the most peace about. I was paid by insurance for the period I was in therapy. And I never had to go back to the manager who was bullying me.

Jesus delivered me clean out of the situation, and I realized it took 4 weeks from the day I applied for jobs to the day I got an offer—a record time by recruitment standards. It was only then I remembered that the theme of the year was rest and acceleration.

Thank you, team JP, for consistently delivering the message of grace from our Abba Father.
